Solar Thermal Systems

Solar Thermal systems generate hot water for your building - for free.

Solar panels are installed facing South East, typically on a roof but they can be incorporated onto building facades. The panels are made up of small metal pipes sandwiched between a toughened glass and black metal back plate. Fluid in the tubes is heated by the sun, which is then pumped round to pass through a coil within a hot water cylinder, and so heat the hot water.

The system works even on cloudy days but, of course, the sunnier the better.In the evening a conventional heater may top up the hot water where required dependant on stored hot water demand.

The panels require very little maintenance and the pipe work system is maintained at the same intervals as the boiler. The system will typically provide 60% to 80% of the yearly hot water demand for the average domestic installation.
